I have an existing sub-slab radon abatement system in place.

I would like to install a sump pump for the couple times a year
that the water table rises enough to give me water in the
basement. My basement is usually keep dry with no more
than a small dehimidifier.

The sub-slab radon abatement depends upon keeping the
air pressure under the slab lower than the air pressure
above the slab. Therefore, any sump pump installation must
have a cover that seals tight to maintain the pressure
differential.

I have heard that sealing covers do exist. True, or false?

Can you acquire and install them?

Thank you,

Dustin

Yes we have sealed SuperSump covers. The first type is a solid cover that can be installed with a foam tape to air-tight seal it. The second type is a two piece lid with a floor drain that also is air locked that can work. I would recommend that you call Tina at our office (1-800-649-6140 ) and have Tom Tropeano, our Certified Waterproofing Professional look at you system and he will give a free written estimate. Problem Solved !

Hmmm. I wouldn't trust foam tape as far as I could throw it.
It would pull away from, or fail to seal any irregularity in the
floor surface. It wouldn't be long before it would simply dry
out and fail. Does the cover mate with the part that is
installed through the floor? Could a flexible sealant be used
instead of tape? Tape sounds pretty cheesy.

Air-locked how? Doesn't a floor drain defeat the air-tight seal?

Thank you,

Dustin

First a SuperSump is a sump liner with a lid. The foam tape seal is atached to the plastic liner and then the cover is placed on top. It is not "cheesy" In fact it is the same tape that sewer enjectors use between the lid and the liner. I think you don't understand.

Second, the floor drain in the SuperSump Lid is air locked with a small plastic ball. When water would flow into the drain the ball will float and the water would drop down to the sump liner. When the water drains out the ball would drop over the hole and create a seal until the next time the drain is needed.

This is not needed , but if you were to have a pipe burst when you were not home this floor drain in the sump would save you from massive flooding. If you would like, call our office and have one of our reps look at your situation and show you what we can do. Thanks SteveA

Excellent explanation. Now it makes sense. I'll likely
be giving you a call for a visit and a quote.

Thank you,
