Sometimes we have customers who want to know if water is coming up from their basement floor or could it be condensation?
A simple test for this question is to tape a 12" square of foil on your basement floor with duct tape. Let stand for 24 hours. If water beads form on top of the foil you have a condensation problem. If when you remove the foil their is dampness under the foil you either have a water problem or vapor transmission problem.
If your problem is minor condensation you may install a dehumidifier. If it is a serious condensation problem I would have a certified waterproofing professional visit your home and measure the relative humidity. He could then make recommendations.
If your problem is a water problem from under the floor, I would recommend a certified waterproofing professional do a visual inspection of your basement. He should be able to determine if your problem is ground water or vapor transmission.
