I have a 12 year old house on the cape.. Cellar has been dry all the time. After the recent snow melts and 5" rain last friday.
woke up sunday to several inches in the basement. The water table has apparently risen (no creek to rise in this case).
After pumping the water out, it appears to be percolating up around the edges of the floor, as well as through some small cracks.
We have a temporary sump in place, waiting for a permanent installation... it may not occur again, given the sandy soil and all..
The cracks in the floor are small, some are a bit wider than before..Any sealing recommendations after we get the cellar dry
do-it myself and/or professional help on this??? thanks

The problem you are experiencing is one alot of homeowners are having right now. Be careful not to fool yourself into thinking that this will not happen again. I would recommend that you have a Certified Waterproofing Professional look at your basement and give you a free written estimate to install a drainage system.
This is the type of problem that I would not waste any money on sealers - they will not work. Even if the sealer held, hydrostatic pressure will cause the concrete floor to crack if it builds up too much pressure under the slab. Better to put your money into a permanent solution.
