View Full Version : Insulation recommendation (after Pioneer Installation)

In September, Pioneer installated a GrateDrain system in my house, including the vabor barrier which runs into the trench.

I have 2 questions:

1) I recall being told not to nail the studs to the newly poured cement but rather use liquid nails. Does this still hold true, 3 months later and forever?

2) What type of installation is best with this system? Foam or standard 3' pink insulation?

Thanks,

Rick

1) You should NEVER nail into the system - use Liquid Nail for wood and concrete.

2) Any insulation that does not have a vapor barrier. (You do not want to trap moisture between our wall vapor barrier and the vapor barrier on fiberglass insulation for example)

I have a similar french drain system with poly vapor barrier on the face of the concrete wall running down into the drain.
The questions I have are:

- what should be done to the exposed (top) of the concrete slab next to the sill plate? and rim joists?
- If I frame the wall out several inches from the foundation wall and use non-faced insulation, what is the best way to get it to stay in between the studs without sagging?

Thanks in advance!

Jay

Hello,
Glad to hear you have a Pioneer Basement Drainage system. I am sure you have thanked your lucky stars you had the work done after the recent rains. Our suggestion for insulating between your studs....(I do hope they are metal) would be to use the "stiff" sort of insulation. Generally found in 1.5" thickness. Preferrably one that is infused with anti-microbial properties like we use.
Did you know that Pioneer also does finishing of basements? We use non organic matter...not wood or paper....and we have a few contractors on board that use only our designed products. these products are specifically for the below grade (basement)area. If you are interested to have a quote on letting us do the job....for you, I can arrange to have a contractor meet with you at your home. Please let me know on this. It is very important to use the right products. We have everything from studs to flooring...hope this helps.
