I recently purchased my first home and during the showings there were signs of minor water damage in the finished basement. The sellers told us that it was due to the failed Septic System.

The septic system was replaced and we purchased the home. During the first week, there were heavy rains and we noticed the carpet wet in the basement. I ended up pulling down the finished wall where the leak was and found water leaking from where the septic pipe goes through the wall. It's not the waste that is leaking back in (thank goodness) but I think it might be just rain water that is comming through because the pipe was not sealed properly?

Sean:

This is a very comman occurance in most homes with pipe penetrations. Over time the soil around the pipe washes away and water finds it way in. This is definately a repair for a professional, if you don't want to revisit the problem after every heavy rainstorm.

You need to contact a Foundation or Crack repair company and have the diameter of the pipe injected.

I would recommend that you go to www.basementdepot.com and look for an accreditted Crack Repair specialist.

The repair should be fairly simple, and quick to have done.

Thanks for your post.
