Last winter the Gas Company fixed a leak in the pipe out in the road near our house. They said we could smell the gas in one corner of the basement (even though no pipes were anywhere near there) because an underground conduit ran from that corner down to the street and the gas tracked along it. Ever since they fixed their problem, we've had water seeping into that corner of the basement after a heavy rain (couple of towels worth each time). We've never had any water problem in the basement in the previous 10 years. Is this coincidence? Is it possible they disrupted the conduit, now with water backing up under the front yard somehow?

It is possible that when they disturbed the soil out in front of the house that water could now follow the conduit back to the house either thru the conduit or the sand surrounding the pipe. I would recommend that you contact the gas company and have one of their inspectors come out to see if they can determine if it is related.

On the other hand in my experience I have seen people live in the same house for 40 plus years and develop a water problem. Any time soil is excavated in the vicinity it can change the flow of water. Sometimes even removing trees and shrubs can cause the problem. I would also recommend that you call Tina at 1-800-649-6140 and have her schedule you a free written estimate with a Certified Waterproofing Professional. Thanks SteveA
