I live in a 140 year old home. It is 3 levels and 980sq. feet. The first level is what most people would consider a basement. BUT we live in it. Our kitchen,1/2 bath, sitting room and laundry room (it used to be a root cellar) is on this level (this is the original design of the home). It sits on a cement slab and half of it is built into the earth (the other half is a walk out with 2 doors and many windows). When we bought this home it had a cheap hard wood floor over the cement slab and in the kitchen, granite tiles. The wood floor is now black with water damage and the tiles in the kitchen are almost constantly wet (especially with all of this rain). We do not have standing water or ceiling/wall leaks. What can we do with our flooring? We would like to put hard wood floors on this floor but is there any way to do this without the wood rotting or becoming damaged?
