Dear Steve,
We have a georgian house with a basement which was built in 1730. We live in Ireland and during the winter months get quite heavy rainfall. Our house has no foundations which is normal for that period and the water levels around the house are quite high. We have been advised on different methods of tanking etc but our builder thinks it should be possible to install a pump that will ONLY PUMP when the water levels reach a certain height. Our architect told us that pumping out the water would cause the soil to dry and consequently cause shrinkage which would be dangerous for the structure of such an old house. Basically we would like to know if there is a pump that will only kick in when the water reaches a certain level. What do you think? WOUld really appreciate your opinion.
